Catriona Gray: A Multifaceted Journey to Beauty and Philanthropy


 Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray, born on January 6, 1994, is a Filipina model, singer, TV host, and beauty queen renowned for her remarkable achievement as Miss Universe 2018. Standing as the fourth Filipina to clinch the prestigious Miss Universe title, Gray had previously earned the titles of Miss Universe Philippines 2018 and Miss World Philippines 2016.

Early life and education

Born in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, to an Australian father of Scottish descent, Ian Gray, and a Filipino mother, Normita Ragas Magnayon, from Oas, Albay, Philippines, Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray carries a rich cultural heritage. Her given name is said to be a tribute to her paternal grandmother, Catherine Gray (née Ross), a Scottish immigrant to Western Australia in 1952, and Elsa Magnayon (née Ragas), her maternal grandmother from Oas, Albay, Philippines.

Gray's academic journey included attending Trinity Anglican School in Cairns, where she served as a house captain and a school chorister. Her pursuit of knowledge extended to obtaining a graduate certificate in music theory from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Alongside her academic pursuits, she also earned certificates in outdoor recreation and a black belt in Choi Kwang-Do martial arts. Gray's passion for music manifested as the lead singer of her school's jazz band, and she showcased her talent in local productions of Miss Saigon. After completing high school, she relocated to Manila, working as a commercial model.


In addition to her accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Gray has been actively involved with Young Focus Philippines since May 2016. She also serves as an ambassador for Love Yourself Philippines and Smile Train, showcasing her commitment to philanthropy.
