Pia Wurtzbach-Jauncey: Reigning Supreme in Beauty and Empowerment

 


Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach-Jauncey, formerly known professionally as Pia Romero and born on September 24, 1989, is a Filipina model, actress, and beauty queen celebrated for her victory in Miss Universe 2015.

Her journey to the crown involved three attempts at Binibining Pilipinas, securing victory in 2015 on her third try. Representing the Philippines at Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach made history by becoming the first Filipina to win the title in four decades. She is the third Filipina to achieve the coveted Miss Universe title, following Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973. Catriona Gray succeeded her three years later, winning Miss Universe 2018


          Early life and education

Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was born in Stuttgart, Germany, to a German father and a Filipina mother. After relocating to the Northern Mindanao region in the Philippines, she settled in Cagayan de Oro City, attending kindergarten at Kong Hua School and primary school at Corpus Christi School. Her parents' separation at the age of 11 led her to become the family's primary breadwinner through modeling and acting. Raised in the Philippines, she also spent some years in England.

Wurtzbach completed her secondary education at ABS-CBN Distance Learning Center in Quezon City, Metro Manila, and pursued culinary arts at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan, Metro Manila. Fluent in Cebuano, English, and Tagalog, she also possesses basic German language skills, enough to order a bratwurst.
